Hi, I'm Beth !

I’m Beth McKendrick, the owner of The Flower House, which officially bloomed in March 2025.
My love for growing things started years ago when I became a homeowner and began filling my yard with vegetables, seasonal flower pots, and hanging baskets—basically anything that would grow.

By day (and many nights), I’m a nurse at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, working in critical care—emergency and pediatric intensive care—and I also work casually in pediatric cardiology.

Flowers found me during a really hard season in 2020 and 2021, when I was navigating PTSD and needed something grounding. What started as “I need a hobby” quickly turned into a full-blown love affair with flowers. Gardening became my therapy and my self-care. I began growing new varieties, experimenting with arrangements, giving bouquets away, and filling our home with blooms. A simple jar of sweet peas can instantly calm me and lift my spirits—and if you’ve never smelled them, you absolutely need to.

Each year, the garden has grown bigger and bigger, and our grass has slowly disappeared as my husband has patiently helped turn every possible inch of yard into garden beds. A dear friend also generously lets me grow on her property, which allows me to produce a surprisingly large amount of flowers.

Flowers have brought so much joy, beauty, healing, and love into my life, and The Flower House is my way of sharing that with others.
