Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a rare genetic condition that affects how a person grows, learns, and manages hunger. People with PWS often feel hungry all the time because their brains do not receive the usual signals that tell them they are full. They may also face challenges with learning, building muscle strength, and managing emotions. Many people with PWS, including my sister, require 24/7 care and supervision to help keep them safe and healthy. This can place a significant demand on families, especially because community support services for PWS are not widely available and caring for someone with PWS requires specific knowledge, skills, and ongoing monitoring. With the right support, many people with PWS can develop important life skills and enjoy active, meaningful lives.
